Dec 2, 2011

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi IceRays had plenty of opportunities in the game but could only convert one time in regulation as Topeka swept the IceRays with a 4-1 victory inside the American Bank Center.

Topeka took the lead 7:09 into the first period as Ryan White was denied by Anthony Stolarz on a breakaway, however Dan Dupell picked up the rebound and tapped it past Stolarz for the 1-0 lead.

Brian Christie scored his third goal in two games at the 19:50 mark of the first period to give Topeka a 2-0 lead after the first period.

Only one goal was scored in the second period and that was by Sean Gaffney of the Roadrunners.  Gaffney recorded a power-play goal just 3:49 into the period to increase the lead 3-0.

The second period also saw three fights on consecutive face-offs as Danny Fetzer, Ladislav Hruska, and Greg Chapman all got five minutes for fighting.

In the third period Trace Strahle scored 4:25 into the period giving the Roadrunners a 4-0 advantage.

Corpus Christi avoided the shutout as Joe Smereck scored a power-play goal during a five minute major penalty pulling the IceRays within three goals, 3-1.

Anthony Stolarz stopped 26 of 40 shots in the loss.
