Corpus Christi, TX (March 3, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays fell to the Shreveport Mudbugs 5-2 at the American Bank Center on Friday, March 3rd, 2023.
Game Action
After giving up goals in the first five minutes of six of their past seven games, the IceRays passed the test of holding off the Mudbugs early in this one and for the entire opening 20 minutes. The Mudbugs tilted the ice the first few shifts but the IceRays started to warm to the task as the period continued. They were awarded a couple power play opportunities in the latter half of the period and Ryan Hintz broke through on their second power play for his first career NAHL goal to give the IceRays the 1-0 lead. Nate Murray and Anthony Cafarelli picked up the assists.
The IceRays were called for another penalty early in the second period and it was Drake Morse who tied the game for the Mudbugs for his 14th of the year which came on the power play. Nick Marino tallied after a mad scramble in Patrik Jurcak’s crease to give the Mudbugs the 2-1 lead at the 8:50 mark of the second period.
Nick Marino struck again at the 8:18 mark of the third period for his second of the game to give the Mudbugs a 3-1 lead. Shreveport captain Garrett Steele padded the lead a few minutes later on a great individual effort, getting his own rebound to make it 4-1. Jackson Beach got the IceRays back to within two at the 13:17 mark for his fourth of the year but that was all she wrote for the IceRays. Drake Morse would add an empty net goal at the end of the game to make it a 5-2 final for the Mudbugs.
The IceRays went to the box five times tonight, the first time they’ve logged double digit penalty minutes against the Mudbugs this year. On the bright side, they cashed in on the power play for the second straight game, going 1-for-3 on the night. Patrik Jurcak was busy and had a solid night in net for the IceRays, stopping 28 of 32.
