NCAA Division I Commit Bolsters IceRays Defensive Corps
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — The Corpus Christi IceRays are proud to announce the tender signing of defenseman Dominic Somma for the 2026-27 season.
Somma, a Division I commit to Army West Point, joins the IceRays from Berkshire School in Sheffield, Massachusetts. The Rye, New York native is a right-shot defenseman known for his size, physicality, and ability to impact the game in all three zones.
“Dominic is a player we’re excited to bring into our organization,” said IceRays Head Coach Nick Skerlick. “He’s a big, strong defenseman who competes hard, defends well, and has the character and work ethic we’re looking for. His commitment to Army West Point speaks volumes about the type of person and player he is.”
Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 205 pounds, Somma brings a combination of reach, strength, and hockey IQ that has made him one of the top defensive prospects in the prep-school ranks. During the 2025-26 season at Berkshire School, he recorded 20 points in 31 games while serving as a key contributor on the blue line.
Earlier this year, Somma announced his commitment to Army West Point, where he will continue both his academic and hockey career at the NCAA Division I level.
“Dominic has a tremendous upside and fits the identity we’re building in Corpus Christi,” added Skerlick. “We’re looking forward to helping him continue his development as he prepares for the next step in his career.”
By signing a tender agreement, Somma commits to playing for the IceRays during the 2026-27 season and becomes the latest addition to the club’s growing roster.
The 2026 NAHL Entry Draft will take place on Wednesday, June 10, at 1 p.m. CT. The draft will be broadcast live on NAHLTV, with round-by-round coverage available at NAHLDraft.com.
