The IceRays came to terms with 17-year-old defenseman Levi Wright earlier this week. He will be seeking to crack the IceRays roster for the start of the 2018-19 season.

A Fenton, MO native, Wright is currently a member of the CarShield AAA 18U team and is in his third season with the organization. During his first year playing at the 18U level, he helped his team to the best record in the 19-team NAPHL 18U throughout the regular season, at 16-1-1.

“Levi Wright is a high-end two-way defenseman,” IceRays Scout Kyle O’Kane said. “He plays a shutdown defenseman type of role and provides a skilled style of play. His powerful stride allows him to make an impact on the offensive side of the puck.”

Wright (6’0, 202) led all CarShield defensemen in assists this season with 11. He also added a goal in a 9-0 stomping over the Arizona Bobcats 18U team back in late January. The previous day, he represented the South All-Stars at the 2018 NAPHL 18U All-Star Game in Blaine, MN.

“I’m so excited for this opportunity with the IceRays,” Wright said. “I believe that it is one of the elite organizations in the NAHL with hard work as the backbone of their philosophy.”

With the imminent departure of Matt Acciaioli, the IceRays will need another smooth-skating defenseman with good vision and sound instincts. Like Acciaioli, Wright led his team in power play assists this season with six, and has demonstrated a high hockey IQ throughout his five seasons in midget hockey.

The IceRays will take on the Shreveport Mudbugs tonight at 7:11 pm CT at George’s Pond Hirsch Memorial Coliseum. They can clinch a playoff berth with a victory combined with an Amarillo Bulls regulation defeat. The game will be broadcast on HockeyTV.com and on SportsRadio Corpus Christi (1230 AM, 95.1 FM, 96.1 FM).
