ICERAYS TRADE SPILLUM TO ABERDEEN

Oct 12, 2016

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) have traded defenseman Keenan Spillum to the Aberdeen Wings for a 2017 2nd Round Pick and future considerations, the team announced today.

“It’s never fun to move players,” said IceRays Head Coach Brad Flynn, “but for Keenan, with the recovery of Trevor Heuser and the emergence of Matt Acciaioli, we felt it was best for the organization and for Keenan as an individual to have an opportunity elsewhere to continue his career for college. We wish Keenan all the best. By trading Keenan, we receive a 2nd round pick, and last year that selection got us David Thomson, so we’re excited to get an even return.”

Spillum, 19, began the 2016-17 season with two assists through his first nine games with four penalty minutes and a -3 rating. Over his three seasons with the IceRays from the start of the 2014-15 season, the Scottsdale, Ariz., native played 102 games, recording one goal and six assists for seven points with 28 penalty minutes and a -19 rating. Spillum made his NAHL debut on Sep. 14, 2014 against the Topeka RoadRunners in an eventual 38-game season, recording his first point on Dec. 11, 2014 versus the Amarillo Bulls and his lone NAHL goal on Feb. 13, 2015 in Amarillo. He recorded assists this season on Sep. 15, 2016 and Sep. 17, 2016 in Wichita Falls.

The IceRays return home and open the 2016-17 home schedule on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7:05 p.m. against the Odessa Jackalopes at the American Bank Center.
