CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Calling all Winter Texans! The Corpus Christi IceRays are welcoming the area’s northern temporary residents for CCRV’s Winter Texan Night at the American Bank Center on Friday, Feb. 17 at 7:05 p.m. when the IceRays host the Topeka RoadRunners.
A “Winter Texan” is a short-term resident, usually from a northern state or province, that comes to the South Texas area between the months of October and March to enjoy the warmth compared to their home town. Each year, thousands of Winter Texans relocate to the Coastal Bend area, including Port Aransas, Padre Island, Rockport, Corpus Christi and more. Many of these northern residents are fans of hockey, and the IceRays welcome them with open arms for their own special evening.
“We get numerous fans from across the United States and Canada throughout the winter months, and we wanted to reward them with a special night of their own,” said IceRays general manager Pat Dunn. “Many Winter Texans are from hockey areas and don’t always realize that hockey is alive and thriving in South Texas. We’re hoping to see many of our northern friends and maybe be able to have them bring home with them a story or two about hockey in Texas.”
Starting on Friday, all Winter Texans in the Coastal Bend region are eligible to receive a free ticket to the hockey game on February 17 by visiting CCRV just off of Interstate Highway 37 in Corpus Christi. Just provide notice of being a Winter Texan and receive a ticket to the game. The opportunity lasts for one week and ends on February 17, the day of the outing.
Winter Texan Night is also a Tride Rideshare Frosty Friday with $1 beer and soda available throughout the game. Plus, fans using promo code “icerays” on the Tride Passenger app will receive $5 off their fare. In addition, fans can participate in an IceRays Post-Game Skate, presented by Braselton Homes, with the IceRays. Wristbands are available for just $7 for skating and rentals at the IceRays Team Store on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The IceRays return home to the American Bank Center on Friday, Feb. 10 at 7:05 p.m. to begin a two-game weekend set against the Odessa Jackalopes.
