ICERAYS WIN OT THRILLER 3-2 OVER AMARILLO

Oct 19, 2012

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – After giving up a late goal, the Corpus Christi IceRays defeated Amarillo in overtime on Saturday night 3-2 off the stick of Emil Romig in front of 3,167 fans in the American Bank Center.

The scoring started 12:29 into the first period when Ryan Chiasson dumped a puck in from center ice that hopped past the goaltender Collin Delia for a 1-0 lead.

Amarillo answered back less than four minutes later.  Geoff Fortman fired a one-timer past IceRays goalie Ben Myers to knot the game up at a goal a piece.

The next goal would come late in regulation.  Brandon Berkley took a rebound and buried it with 3:36 left to go in the game for a 2-1 IceRays lead.

Just when it looked like Corpus Christi was going to win in regulation, Amarillo had other ideas.  Ben Myers picked up the puck and tried to shoot it down ice, but muffed the shot right onto the stick of Bulls’ forward Gage Christianson who converted with just 38 seconds left to eventually force overtime.

However, only 57 ticks into the overtime period, Emil Romig swung a puck to the front of the net that went over the left shoulder of Collin Delia ending the game.

Myers was excellent between the pipes, stopping 32 of 34 shots he faced.

The IceRays are in action tomorrow afternoon against Amarillo to finish out the series.  Puck drops at 3:05PM, coverage begins at 2:50PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on SportsJuice.com, the TuneIn Radio APP, or fasthockey.com.
