Coming off of a sweep of the New Mexico Ice Wolves, two IceRays were honored in the weekly league awards. The NAHL named Stepan Kuznetsov and Charlie Merkley honorable mentions during this week’s edition of NAHL Stars of the Week for the South Division.
After not playing on Friday night, Kuznetsov made his return to the lineup known league wide on Saturday. The forward scored two go-ahead goals for the IceRays with the second becoming the game winner with under two minutes to go in the game. With the goals, Kuznetsov becomes the team leader in goals with seven total on the season, six total with Corpus Christi.
Charlie Merkley scored one on Saturday night as well to give the IceRays a 3-2 lead late in the second period. The goal extends Merkley’s streak to three games as he was the second star for Corpus Christi in both games on the weekend.
The IceRays hit the road this weekend to Wichita Falls to face off against the Warriors. The two teams split in early October, which is the only matchup this season between the two sides.
