POWER-PLAY GOALS KEY ICERAYS SWEEP OF BRAHMAS WITH 3-1 WIN

Nov 22, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Maurin Bouvet earned first star of the game honors after scoring the first goal of the game, along with assisting the game winner on Saturday night as the Corpus Christi IceRays picked up another 3-1 win, sweeping the Lone Star Brahmas in front of 6,647 fans at American Bank Center.

Maurin Bouvet extended his point streak to three games as he scored the first goal of the game.  While on the power-play, Bouvet worked his way to the left post and found a hole in Brahma’s goaltender TJ Black on a short side shot at the 9:15 mark with assists going to Brad LeLievre and Martin Hojbjerg to give Corpus Christi a 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes of play.

In the second period Bouvet had a factor on Corpus Christi’s second goal of the night.  Taking the puck at the point, Bouvet fired it through a screen towards the net and getting his stick on it was Jake Durflinger who deflected the shot by TJ Black just 1:52 into the frame for a 2-0 lead.  The second assist went to Caleb O’Brien.

The Brahmas answered to get on the board at 9:01 of the second period with a two on one rush.  Todd Koritzinsky went down the right wing wall and wired a shot top shelf on the short side over the left shoulder of IceRays goaltender Forbes Ploszaj to pull Lone Star within a goal.  Assists on that were credited to Connor Enciso and Kellen Wasell.

In the third period Corpus Christi cashed in on another power-play opportunity, this time off the stick of Grant Hutton.  While at the center point, Martin Hojbjerg sent a pass to Hutton who one-timed the puck right by TJ Black at 7:44 of the final period to move the IceRays out to a 3-1 lead.

That score held up as the final and Ploszaj stopped 18 of 19 shots in the win.
