RAYS’ REPORT #10: FAIRBANKS TAKES THE WEEKEND, KENAI RIVER UP NEXT

Nov 18, 2012

After Corpus Christi left Fairbanks with three of four possible points, the IceDogs came to South Texas and returned the favor defeating the IceRays in overtime on Friday night, and in regulation on Saturday.  Corpus Christi came out with a point though on Friday’s 3-2 OT loss.  This weekend, the other Alaskan squad comes to town as the Kenai River Brown Bears travel from Wichita Falls to Corpus Christi for a weekend series on Friday and Saturday night.  The last time the IceRays met Kenai River, the Brown Bears were swept by Corpus Christi.

GAME #20 – 11-16-12: Corpus Christi 2-3 (OT) Fairbanks –  Perry D’Arrisso scored two goals to give the IceRays a 2-1 lead heading into the third period, however, it was Garret Clemment who stole the show scoring a hat trick including the overtime winner as the Fairbanks IceDogs snuck past Corpus Christi 3-2.  Clemment started the scoring with his first of the night with on a breakaway goal 1:19 left to go in the first period with assists from Duggie Lagrone and Ben Campbell for a 1-0 lead.  Corpus Christi responded just 48 seconds into the second period when D’Arrisso fired a rebound shot from Jalen Schulz past IceDogs goaltender Kevin Aldridge to even the score at one goal apiece.  D’Arrisso struck again at the 9:03 mark of the second period on the power-play with assists credited to Rudy Sulmonte and John Roisum for their only lead of the night, 2-1.  Clemment answered back with an unassisted tally with 6:02 left in the game to knot the score at two.  Then in overtime, Clemment picked up the game winner while Trevor Heuser sat in the penalty box just 1:48 into the extra frame for the 3-2 victory.  Hayden Stewart stopped 30 of 33 shots in the loss.

GAME #21 – 11-17-12: Corpus Christi 1-3 Fairbanks –  The Fairbanks IceDogs added an empty net goal late in regulation to seal a 3-1 victory in front of 4,711 fans inside the American Bank Center on Stars & Stripes Night.  The scoring started 10:09 into the game while the IceRays were a man up.  AJ Jarosz took a pass from the left wins circle and buried it top shelf over the shoulder of Kevin Aldridge for his 4th of the year and a 1-0 IceRays lead.  Fairbanks stormed back in the second period with two goals of their own.  Ben Campbell took a drop pass from Jayson Angus in the left circle and wired it top shelf on Hayden Stewart to even the score up at the 5:33 point of the period.  After a Roman Uchyn minor penalty, Fairbanks took the lead for good after the original shot was handled by Stewart, it snuck behind him and was tapped in by Devin Loe for a 2-1 lead with 4:34 left in the second.  Then, late in regulation, Kyle Lee added an empty net goal to secure a 3-1 victory.  Hayden Stewart stopped 27 of 29 shots he faced.
