RAYS REPORT #10: TWO LOSSES

The Corpus Christi IceRays weekend did not go as planned.  A few bad breaks, and bounces that didn’t go their way, and now Corpus Christi has to play catch up to get into that final playoff position in the South Division standings.  Friday night, the IceRays lost on a call in overtime that should not have counted, and Saturday lost to the Roadrunners in a penalty filled game 4-1.

GAME #1 – 12-02-11: Corpus Christi 3-4 (OT) Topeka Roadrunners – After no scoring in the first period, Joe Ginley put the IceRays on the scoreboard 10:38 into the second period as Perry D’Arrisso deflected the puck off the skate of Ginley and into the net for a 1-0 lead.  AJ Jarosz scored shorthanded 14:24 into the period giving the IceRays a 2-0 advantage.  Topeka came right back as Brian Christie and Collin Montgomery both scored to tie that game at two a piece heading into intermission.  No scoring in the third forced an overtime period and with no time left on the clock Brian Christie scored his second of the game to give the Roadrunners a 4-3 overtime win.

GAME #2 – 12-03-11: Corpus Christi 1-4 Topeka RoadrunnersThis game was different than the night before, it was Topeka who took the lead 7:09 into regulation as Dan Dupell gave the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead.  Brian Christie scored his third goals in two games to give Topeka a 2-0 advantage.  One goal in the second period was a power-play goal recorded by Sean Gaffney 3:49 into the period.  Things got physical as three consecutive fights broke out resulting in a total 141 minutes in penalties.  Trace Strahle gave Topeka a 4-0 lead early in the third period.  Joe Smereck ended any chance of a shutout bid with a power-play goal of his own10:11 into the final period of play.
