RAYS REPORT #2

The Corpus Christi IceRays fell upon hard times in Odessa, Texas as the Jackalopes swept this past weekend picking up two wins over the IceRays.  The loss moves the IceRays to 3-4-0 on the season and fourth place in the South Division.

GAME #1 – 9-30-11: Corpus Christi 3-5 Odessa – The IceRays fell behind 2-0 early to the Jackalopes and were unable to catch up after giving up four first period goals.  Two of the goals by the Jackalopes were scored 38 seconds apart by Willie Faust and Ryan Atkinson.  Brandon Adams scored his first goal as an IceRays.  Assisting was A.J Jarosz, his first point as an IceRay.  Eric Purcell scored two goals for the IceRays including a power play goal in the second period.  Kale Robertson was pulled after the first period. Anthony Stolarz replaced Robertson stopping 18 of 19 shots faced.  

GAME #2 – 10-01-11:Corpus Christi 2-5 Odessa – As they did Friday night, the IceRays gave up the first two goals of the game to the Odessa Jackalopes.  The Jacks outshot the IceRays 40-25, marking the first time all season the IceRays have been outshot by their opponent.  Perry DArrisso and Dmitry Ermakov scored the only goals for Corpus Christi in the losing effort.  Joe Smereck assisted the DArrisso goal, giving him a two game point streak, three assists in two games. 

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS: Friday night’s game against the Amarillo Bulls is Frosty Friday.  All fans in attendance will receive great specials such as half off 20oz. domestic beer and half off 24oz. sodas.  Saturday's game is the Caller Times Family Four Pack Night.  Fans can purchase four tickets for just $34.

PK STREAK OVER… Prior to this weekend, the IceRays were on fire penalty killing.  After giving up three power play goals this past weekend the IceRays are now ranked sixth in the league killing penalties.  They have killed off 28 of the 31 power plays they faced.

NOT WASTING TIME…The two newest additions to the IceRays roster wasted no time making their mark on the team this past weekend.  A.J Jarosz and Brandon Adams both recorded points in Friday’s game vs. Odessa.  Adams scored 11:02 into regulation on a power play with an assist from Brandon Adams in their first game as an IceRay.

REIEF EFFORT…Anthony Stolarz relieved Kale Robertson to start the second period of Friday night’s game in Odessa.  Stolarz provided a very solid effort in the two periods he played.  He stopped 18 of 19 shots in the 5-3 loss. 

SCORING TOUCH… Eric Purcell scored three goals in two games before the 5-2 loss Saturday.  Purcell notched the overtime winner on a penalty shot in the home opener September 23rd, and scored two goals in a row Friday night against the Jackalopes in the team’s 5-3 loss.
