RAYS REPORT #6 – ICERAYS SPLIT WEEKEND

The Corpus Christi IceRays tied the all time franchise record for winning streaks after a Friday night win against Wichita Falls.  However, the Wildcats split the weekend on Saturday night with a comeback victory.

GAME #1 – 11-04-11: Corpus Christi 4-1 Wichita Falls – Corpus Christi took the lead 14:22 into the first period as Seth Blair took a shot from behind the goal-line, deflecting it off the goaltender and into the net for a 1-0 lead.  Nick Szopinski tied the game at one a piece 1:37 into the second period gaining the momentum back for the Wildcats; however the IceRays stormed back with three unanswered goals. Joe Ginley scored top shelf shorthanded 3:02 into the second period to put the IceRays back on top 2-1. Beau Walker added a goal and Matthew Weis tapped in an empty net goal to preserve a 4-1 victory and tie the all time franchise record for win streaks at six games.  Anthony Stolarz stopped 42 of 43 shots and earned the game’s First Star.

GAME #2 – 11-05-11:Corpus Christi 2-5 Wichita Falls – The following night started out much like Friday night did.  The IceRays scored 7:25 into regulation on the power-play, Perry D’Arrisso ripped a shot upstairs to break a scoreless game and give Corpus Christi a 1-0 advantage.  Eric Purcell scored eight seconds later, setting a franchise record for two quickest goals scored, to put the IceRays up 2-0.  Wichita Falls stormed back with five unanswered goals, three of them coming in the third period to end the IceRays winning streak with a 5-2 victory.

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS:On Sunday November 20ththe IceRays are back on home ice as they host the Amarillo Bulls at 3:05PM inside the American Bank Center.  Sunday’s are Dollar Days; all fans in attendance will get great deals such as one dollar small hotdogs, soda’s, and popcorn.

SEVEN GAME POINT STREAK… Eric Purcell is on a seven game point streak that started back on October 8th against Amarillo.  In that period, Purcell has seven goals and four assists. 

ON THE ROAD AGAIN… The IceRays are once again in Wichita Falls this upcoming weekend as they take on the Wildcats for another weekend series.  On the year, Corpus Christi is 1-1 against Wichita Falls. 

FRIDAY NIGHT’S FIRST STAR…Anthony Stolarz played an unbelievable game Friday night in Wichita Falls stopping 42 of 43 shots faced to help the IceRays pick up a 4-1 victory for their 6th win in a row.

DRY SPELL ENDED…Beau Walker scored his first goal on Friday night since the 2011 NAHL Showcase.  Walked beat Wichita Falls goaltender Tyler Green 12:35 into the second period.

PARTING WAYS… The IceRays released goaltender Kale Robertson while Christian Elsborg decided to move on from Corpus Christi.  The IceRays added defenseman Ladislav Hruska and goaltender Chris Komma.
