                      RAYS REPORT #7: ICERAYS SWEPT

 

The Corpus Christi IceRays once again visited Wichita Falls for two games this past weekend.  Friday night the IceRays lost 2-1 in a close game.  Saturday night the IceRays were shutout for the third time this season 2-0 as the Wildcats completed the weekend sweep of Corpus Christi.   

GAME #1 – 11-11-11: Corpus Christi 1-2 Wichita Falls – The Wildcats kicked off the scoring just eleven seconds into the game as Jake Webber took a shot from the point, Tyler Hope deflected it past Anthony Stolarz for an early 1-0 lead.  The IceRays tied the game up with a shorthanded goal; Travis Maxwell took a pass from Joe Ginley on an odd man rush beating Matt Leon top shelf to tie the game 1-1.  Jason Eddy scored the game winning goal 17:24 into the second period to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead.  Anthony Stolarz stopped 29 of 31 shots in the loss.  It was the second straight loss for Corpus Christi at the hands of the Wichita Falls Wildcats.

GAME #2 – 11-12-11:Corpus Christi 0-2 Wichita Falls – Both teams were scoreless through the first period of play as the IceRays were outshot 17-9 in period one.  No goals were scored in the second period until the 16:42 mark on a delayed penalty against the IceRays, the Wildcats got six skaters out on the ice and Bradley Shumway tapped the puck past Chris Komma to take a 1-0 lead.  Nathan Chasteen gave the Wildcats a big insurance goal 16:24 into the third period to give Wichita Falls a 2-0 advantage.  Chris Komma was solid in net for Corpus Christi stopping 31 of 33 shots in his first start as an IceRay.  Corpus Christi lost their third straight game to the Wildcats.

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS:This Sunday November 20ththe IceRays are back on home ice as they host the Amarillo Bulls at 3:05PM inside the American Bank Center.  Sunday’s are Dollar Days; all fans in attendance will get great deals such as one dollar small hotdogs, soda’s, and popcorn.  In addition, it’s Stinger Rays birthday, come out and celebrate!

LOSING STREAK… The IceRays are in a slump, losing the past three games to the Wichita Falls Wildcats that started last weekend in a Saturday night loss.    

BACK HOME… The IceRays return to home ice for the next three weekends starting this Sunday as they host the league leading Amarillo Bulls at 3:05PM.  Next weekend the New Mexico Mustangs come to town, and Topeka makes their first trip of the year the week after. 

FIRST IMPRESSION…Chris Komma had a solid first start for the Corpus Christi IceRays on Saturday night.  Komma denied 31 of 33 shots, however the IceRays failed to score being shutout 2-0.

DRY SPELL ENDED…Beau Walker scored his first goal last Friday night since the 2011 NAHL Showcase.  Walked beat Wichita Falls goaltender Tyler Green 12:35 into the second period.
