RAYS REPORT #9: WEEKEND SPLIT

The IceRays were back on home ice this past weekend and the IceRays took down the Mustangs Friday night in thrilling fashion with a 5-4 shootout victory.  Saturday was a different outcome.  Corpus Christi was unable to solve goaltender Randy Graham as New Mexico shut out the IceRays 2-0.

GAME #1 – 11-25-11: Corpus Christi 5-4 (SO) New Mexico Mustangs – The Mustangs kicked things off early in the game as the IceRays hurt themselves with penalty issues.  Matthew Uvodich scored on the power-play 5:41 into regulation to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.  They led 3-0 in the second period, however the IceRays stormed back with four unanswered goals, two by Travis Maxwell, to give the IceRays a 4-3 lead late in regulation.  However, New Mexico scored with less than 30 seconds left to force overtime.  After no scoring in overtime, Corpus Christi prevailed in the shootout to win 5-4.

GAME #2 – 11-26-11: Corpus Christi 0-2 New Mexico Mustangs– The IceRays could not catch a break in Saturday night’s contest.  New Mexico outshot the IceRays in the first period 10-8 however there was no scoring.  The game remained scoreless until 6:26 point of period two, as the Mustangs took a 1-0 lead on the power-play.  Cody Walsh added the insurance goal 3:30 into the third period to give New Mexico their third win in four games.  For the IceRays, that was their fifth loss in six games.
