ROMIG SCORES LONE GOAL AS RAYS’ FALL 3-1 TO RUNNERS’

TOPEKA, KANSAS – No goal calls were the theme on Saturday’s game in Topeka, however in the end it was the RoadRunners who prevailed with a 3-1 win over the Corpus Christi IceRays inside the Kansas ExpoCentre.

The IceRays thought they led 1-0 after Wayland Williams scored on a two-on-one rush  with a  delayed penalty coming to Topeka, however the referee’s would decide the puck did not cross the line and the game remained scoreless.

The RoadRunners took advantage and struck first on the power-play at 9:03 of the first period.  Trace Strahle took a shot from the top of the left circle that Ben Myers got a piece of but trickled over the goal line for a 1-0 Topeka lead.

Tyler Groat gave Topeka a 2-0 lead with a wrap-around goal with just 49sec left in the first period with an assist to Drew Kariofiles.

To start the second period, Corpus Christi had a power-play and converted.  Mike Economos took a shot from the slot that went wide but deflected out to Emil Romig who put the IceRays on the board 47sec into the middle frame.

In the final period, Mike Gornall picked up the puck in the slot and beat Ben Myers as he was left all alone in front of the net at 9:26 of the third.

Ben Myers stopped 31 of 34 shots in the loss.
