IceRays defenseman Ryan Rosenberg has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey at State University of New York at Fredonia. He will begin his college hockey career at the start of the 2018-19 season.

“We are very happy for Ryan to continue his hockey career at the college level,” IceRays Head Coach Brad Flynn said. “Since arriving in late December he has worked hard to improve his game and has improved our team in the process. We wish Ryan all the best next season both on the ice and in the classroom.”

Rosenberg (6’3, 220) has brought a stable, physical presence to the blue line since he arrived in Corpus Christi during the holiday break. It didn’t take him long to make a strong impact, scoring a goal in his first weekend in an IceRays uniform.

Since then, The Dix Hills, NY native has delivered a consistent, shutdown defensive game to an injury-riddled defense corps. He has also added four points (1 G, 3 A) in 26 games. Rosenberg will be returning to his home state to continue his college hockey career at SUNY-Fredonia, a school that was easy for the defenseman to decide upon.

“I chose to attend SUNY-Fredonia because it will enable me to continue to play the sport I love and receive a good education,” Rosenberg said. “Choosing Fredonia wasn’t hard for me. I developed a very good relationship with the coach and believe he is a perfect fit for me in what I want in a coach.”

Rosenberg may have only been an IceRay for half a season, but his experience in Corpus Christi is something he will not forget. Playing for the IceRays helped him reach his goal of playing college hockey, but it also provided him with unforgettable memories and allowed him to wrap up his final shift of junior hockey in an exciting atmosphere, surrounded by teammates and coaches who he will remember forever.

“My time in Corpus has been nothing short of amazing. It’s a great atmosphere and the best place to play and finish out my junior career,” Rosenberg said. “The coaching staff and the guys on the team are truly the best. The organization is first class, treats us fantastically and gives us all the tools we need to succeed. Our fans are the best in the league and make playing here even more fun. I would like to thank my coaches for getting me prepared to move onto the next level and helping me improve my game. I would also like to thank my teammates. They took me in late into the season and made me feel like I was one of them from the start. I would also like to thank my billet family for providing a wonderful home for me and taking care of me. Lastly, I would like to thank my family for always supporting me and helping me achieve my goals. My final goal here will be to help bring the Robertson Cup back to Corpus. Thank you Corpus!”

The 2017-18 regular season will end this weekend as the IceRays host the Lone Star Brahmas on Pack the House Weekend. The IceRays will wear specialty jerseys all series long which will be sold off at a silent auction at the bottom of Section 112. Proceeds will benefit No Kid Hungry. Puck drop is set for 7:05 pm CT both nights. The games will be broadcast on HockeyTV and on YouTube.
