SCHULZ SELECTED BY TRI-CITY IN 4TH ROUND OF USHL DRAFT

May 7, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – With their first two picks of the United States Hockey League draft, Tri-City picked up a forward along with a goaltender.  Jalen Schulz became the first defenseman that the Storm added to their 2013 draft list as he was selected in the 4th round, 47th overall.

"We would like to congratulate Jalen,” said head coach Justin Quenneville.  “He is deserving of the attention and he is another installment of the product our organization strives to develop.”

Schulz was the 15th defender overall picked in the draft and the 4th from the North American Hockey League.  In the course of 48 games played in the regular season,  the Cambridge, Minnesota native scored five goals and added eight assists while racking up 57 penalty minutes.

“It's a great feeling,” Schulz said.   I've heard a lot of great things about the Storm. They have a great organization with a history of moving players on to college and pro levels as well.

In the course of a 12 seasons of Tri-City Storm hockey in the USHL, they have moved on 108 athletes to pursue a collegiate career at their desired institutions.

Quenneville directed the credit to assistant coach Jeff Worlton and strength/ conditioning coach Jeff Paluseo.  “They did a tremendous job working with Jalen on and off the ice this season.  He has all the makings of being a high level player over the course of his career.”

Eight players in Storm history have taken the ice at least once in the National Hockey League including Bill Thomas (Phoenix Coyotes), Steve Wagner (St. Louis Blues), Jack Hillen (NY Islanders), Peter Mannino (NY Islanders), Christian Hansen (Toronto Maple Leafs), Scott Parse (LA Kings), Jared Palmer (Minnesota Wild), and Jaden Schwartz (St. Louis Blues).

I can't thank the IceRays organization enough.” Schulz finished by saying.   I also want to personally thank coach Quenneville, Worlton, and Paluseo for everything they have done to help.”
