TOPEKA, KANSAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays couldn’t pick a better time to record the first win over the Topeka RoadRunners but did so on Friday night with a 3-2 victory inside the Kansas ExpoCentre.

The scoring started on a Topeka power-play off the stick of Patrick Pollock from the left wing circle.  Pollock took a pass and wired a shot over the shoulder of Hayden Stewart for a 1-0 lead.

Beau Walker responded with a goal as he put a move on and back-handed the puck through the legs of RoadRunners goaltender Mackenzie Sawyer to tie the game 1-1 at 13:54 of period one.

In the third frame, Ryan McNeely forced an interception and walked in firing a wrister past the right leg pad of Sawyer to put Corpus Christi ahead 2-1 at 3:47 of the final period.

Drew Kariofiles answered back at 6:13 to tie the game up once again with assists from Jake Kamrass and Tyler Groat that eventually forced overtime.

In a shootout Charles Baldwin started the scoring with a nice move to put the Rays’ up 1-0.  To finish it off, Beau Walker back-handed the puck through the legs once again of Sawyer to propel the IceRays to a 3-2 shootout victory.

Hayden Stewart stopped 31 of 33 shots he faced.
