STOLARZ ADVANCES AT USA EVALUATION CAMP

Aug 8, 2012

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Former IceRays goaltender Anthony Stolarz has survived the first round of cuts at the USA Hockey evaluation camp in Lake Placid, NY.  The final roster for the team will be announced in November.

“So far the camp has been excellent,” said Stolarz.  “It is extremely competitive and there are so many talented players here.”

The Under-20 team is being puzzled together for the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2012 – Jan. 5, 2013 in Ufa, Russia. The U.S. is seeking its third medal in four years, having won the gold medal in 2010 and the bronze medal in 2011.

In the first game for the USA Team White, Stolarz stopped all 11 shots he faced in a 5-2 win over USA Team Blue.  In the second game, the Philadelphia Flyers prospect stopped 15 of 17 shots he faced in a 3-2 loss.  In his first game against a national team, he allowed three goals on 17 shots against Sweden.

Stolarz was pleased with his performance after his first international game.  “For my first taste of international play, I think I have held my own and have adjusted well to the high level of play.”

During his time with the IceRays last season, Stolarz was selected Three Stars of the Week twice, and was a member of the U18 Select Team at the 2012 NAHL Top Prospects tournament.  He will play Division-1 ice hockey this season for the University of Nebraska-Omaha.  In June he was selected in the second round of the 2012 NHL Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers.

“So far it has been fun and an honor to represent my country,” Stolarz finished.  “Hopefully I'll be in Russia playing for Team USA.”

The United States plays Sweden today at 4:00PM EST and finishes the camp as they take the ice this Saturday at 1:00PM EST against Finland.  All games can be followed HERE
