STOLARZ STOPS 42 IN LOSS TO AMARILLO

AMARILLO, TX – Eric Purcell scored his team leading 20th goal of the year however, the IceRays could not overcome an early deficit as the Amarillo scored two goals in eight seconds on route to an 8-1 victory on Saturday night inside the Amarillo Civic Center.

The scoring started 2:08 into the game as Mike Erickson notched a power-play goal for a 1-0 Bulls lead.  Then, just eight seconds later Clint Carlisle tapped in a loose puck past Anthony Stolarz for a 2-0 Amarillo advantage.  After a third goal provided the best team in the league with a 3-0 lead, Eric Purcell received a pass from Danny Fetzer in the slot and beat Gregg Gruehl to pull the IceRays within two goals.

In the second frame, Carlisle recorded his second strike of the game at the 6:22 mark of the period.  Assists were credited to Matt Johnson and Omar Mullan. 

After two periods, Amarillo held a 5-1 lead.  Matt Laprade replaced Anthony Stolarz in net for the third period.  Stolarz stopped 42 of 47 shots while Laprade denied 8 of 11.

Karl Beckman, Mike Davis, and TJ Sarcona each scored in the third period as Amarillo picked up the 8-1 win.

The IceRays return to the American Bank Center Friday and Saturday night against the Texas Tornado.  Puck drops at 7:05PM, coverage begins at 6:50PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on ESPN Radio 1440AM.
