TOPEKA STUNS ICERAYS IN OT 3-2

Dec 1, 2011

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Topeka Roadrunners shocked the Corpus Christi IceRays scoring in overtime with no time left on the clock for a 3-2 victory in front of 4,543 fans inside the American Bank Center.

The game was scoreless after the first period as both teams had a few scoring chances but both goaltenders stopped every shot they faced.  Corpus Christi could not convert on a power-play 15:40 into the first period.

The IceRays drew first blood in the game 10:38 into the second period as Perry D’Arrisso sent a puck off the skate of Joe Ginley and into the net for a 1-0 lead.

Corpus Christi took a 2-0 lead on a shorthanded goal.  Ginley lost the puck and it went right onto the stick of AJ Jarosz who beat goaltender Brandon Reagan for a two goal lead.

Topeka did not give up in the period and scored two unanswered goals, the first Brian Christie on a great pass from Linus Johansson 17:36 into the period to split the lead for the IceRays in half, 2-1.

The Roadrunners tied the game with just 0:42 seconds left as a loose puck in front of the net was poked in Collin Montgomery to tie the game at two a piece heading into the third period.

Things got physical in the second, two fights broke out as Seth Blair went at it with Michal Pastor and Ladislav Hruska got into his first fight as an IceRay with Kyle Sharkey.

There was no scoring in the third period as the IceRays went to overtime for the second time in three games.  A face-off with 1.5 seconds left on the clock led people to believe a shootout was upcoming, however Brian Christie pushed the puck forward and took a quick shot beating Anthony Stolarz with no time left on the clock in overtime for the 3-2 win with the extra attacker on the ice.

Anthony Stolarz was impressive stopping 36 of 39 shots in the loss.

The IceRays return to the American Bank Center tomorrow night as they yet again host the Topeka Roadrunners.  Puck drops at 7:05PM, coverage begins at 6:50PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on ESPN Radio 1440AM.
