Weekend Preview: January 7-8 vs. New Mexico

Jan 6, 2022

The IceRays finish their second longest home stand of the season this weekend with the New Mexico Ice Wolves coming to town.

The two-game series will mark the last series of the regular season between Corpus Christi and New Mexico. In six matchups this season, the IceRays are 3-1-2 against the Ice Wolves including a record of 3-0-0 in their last three matchups.

Similar to how they came into American Bank Center in November, New Mexico enters the series in first place in the south division.  The IceRays are looking for a similar result to that series in November as well as the Rays swept the first place Ice Wolves by scores of 2-1 and 4-3 respectively.

A big factor into what has helped the IceRays get eight of twelve available points against New Mexico this season has been goaltending.  Both Damon Beaver and Stefan Carney have save percentages above .940 against the Ice Wolves this season (Beaver .943, Carney .948).  Carney is undefeated against New Mexico this season at 2-0-0 while Beaver comes into the weekend with a record of 1-1-2 in four games against New Mexico.

Other players with success against New Mexico this season include Nathan Butler, Dylan Contreras, and Zach Dill who all have four points against the Ice Wolves this season.

Besides the product on the ice, there are plenty of reasons to come to American Bank Center this weekend including Frosty Friday and Family Four Pack on Saturday.  On Frosty Friday, enjoy $4 beer and soda at the game.  The Saturday Family Four Pack gets you four tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas all for just $40.

Also, this weekend marks the return of Post Game Skate.  Saturday night, following the game, you have a chance to skate with the IceRays on the ice at American Bank Center.

If you are unable to make this weekend’s games at American Bank Center.  Coverage of the games can be found on HockeyTV and Brewster Street Radio with pregame coverage starting around 6:45 both nights.
