Weekend Preview: March 4-5 vs. Wichita Falls

Mar 3, 2022

The IceRays welcome the Wichita Falls Warriors to the American Bank Center for a two-game series this weekend.

On Friday, it’s Gold Falcon Custom Jewelers Night with our good friends at Gold Falcon giving out polishing cloths to the first 500 fans in the building.  Also, it’s Frosty Friday, which means $4 16 ounce draft beers thanks to our friends at L&F Distributing.

Saturday night is Whataburger Community Night benefiting the Coastal Bend Food Bank’s Culinary Kits for Kids program.  The IceRays will wear special Whataburger themed jerseys, which will be auctioned off after the game.  Also, it’s Pucks and Paws night meaning dogs are welcomed at Saturday night’s game.

Corpus Christi has a 3-1-0 record against Wichita Falls this season including sweeping the last matchups between the two teams in early December.  Both wins in the early December series were victories where overtime was needed.  The IceRays won in a shootout on night one of the two game set and on a power play in overtime on night two.

The IceRays are looking to bounce back after a tough two-game set with Shreveport last weekend.  The Mudbugs broke out the brooms at American Bank Center winning 7-1 and 5-3.

Wichita Falls is one of the teams the IceRays are chasing in the standings as the Warriors stand seven points in front of Corpus.  With four games against Wichita Falls remaining, each of the matchups is important for the Rays as they look to march toward the Robertson Cup Playoffs.

Shining in the series sweep in December was Braden Rourke.  Rourke recorded five points including a hat trick in the thrilling night two win for the Rays.  Rourke is definitely a player to watch coming into the weekend as he recorded three points in Saturday night’s loss against Shreveport.

Other notables that stood out in the two-game series in December were Damon Beaver and Stefan Carney.Damon Beaver had a 40/44 night on Friday, which included a perfect shootout performance of three for three. Carney stopped 64 of 68 shots in the Saturday night OT victory.  Offensively, Stepan Kuznetsov recorded three points in the two game series including the overtime game winner on Saturday night.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm on both Friday and Saturday night at American Bank Center.  Tickets are available at the American Bank Center box office and online on Ticketmaster.
