Corpus Christi, Texas – After suffering through a recent lull on the scoresheet, a pair of Corpus Christi IceRays combined for a big weekend in New Mexico.

IceRays forwards Mathieu Bourgault and Stepan Kuznetsov began the weekend getting into the game stat sheet in Friday’s 5-2 loss at the New Mexico Ice Wolves, and the duo paired up again Saturday with some more fireworks in a 3-1 victory.

For their efforts, Bourgault and Kuznetsov were named NAHL Star of the Week Honorable Mention.

Bourgault, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound forward from St-Bruno-de-Montarville, Quebec, notched one of the assists with Billy Biedermann on Kuznetsov’s game-tying goal in the third period Friday.

In the second game, Bourgault assisted with Connor Brust on Kuznetsov’s first goal at 18:09 of the first period to give the IceRays a 1-0 lead.

Bourgault would get the lone assist on Kuznetsov’s second goal, which turned out to be the game-winner at 2:18 of the third period.

He finished the weekend with three assists in two games after going four games without a point. He now has nine assists in his last nine games.

“Bourgault has been a force for us since Day 1,” IceRays head coach Sylvain Cloutier said. “It’s nice to see both of them get honorable mentions.”

Kuznetsov, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound forward from Biloxi, Mississippi, had three goals in the two games in New Mexico after going without a goal in five-straight contests. He now has five goals and two assists in his last eight games.

“’Kuzy’ had a great weekend for us,” Cloutier said of Kuznetsov. “We need him to keep going.”

The IceRays will begin a stretch of four-straight home games when they host the Lone Star Brahmas on Friday and Saturday night at the American Bank Center at 7:05 CDT.
